Minsk has three football teams in the Belarusian Premier League: Dynamo Minsk, who won the old USSR championship in 1982, Partisan Minsk, who changed their name from MTZ-RIPO this year and have previously played in Europe, and FC Minsk who took over the Torpedo Stadium when Torpedo Minsk went bust five years ago.
Please note that Dynamo Minsk no longer play their league games at the Dynamo Stadium in the city centre. They now use the Dinamo-Yuni stadium in Kuntsevshina in the western reaches of the city, about 15 minutes walk from Kammenaya Gorka metro station. They do however play European matches at the Dynamo Stadium.
Kick-off times for football matches can vary. Even local football journalists don't know exact details until a few days before the game! If you're going to a game send me an e-mail and I'll confirm the kick-off time for you.
The ice-hockey season starts in late Autumn. Minsk also has three main teams. The biggest is Dynamo Minsk who play in the Continental Hockey League. This is arguably second to only the NHL as the strongest league in the world and features all of Russia’s top sides. Keramin Minsk and Yunost Minsk play in the Belarusian Open League, which features clubs from Latvia and Ukraine.
