Shopping

The city’s markets and shops offer a fascinating insight into everyday life in Belarus. A significant number of shops haven’t changed much since Soviet times and you’re unlikely to find too many Western brands on display. These make them perfect places for picking up unusual souvenirs.

Generally, western fashions and accessories are sold at indoor markets by independent traders. You’ll find one underneath October Square and another in an old factory building on the road leading from Yakub Kolas Square to Komarovski Market.

Times are changing however. Hypermarkets are popping up all over the city and Minsk recently opened its first shopping mall. The buying habits of the locals are evolving all the time so make the most of your opportunity to explore the city's traditional shopping areas before they change beyond recognition.
